Last year, we had the privilege of hosting the Blount Scholars for a field trip to our quarry and fabrication shop. Blount Scholars is a program ran by the Blount Mansion Association for homeschool kids in the Knox/Blount area. We had a blast with this inspired group of young people who were very interested in the stone here and the buildings constructed with it.
Blount Mansion was built before 1792 and is the oldest original home site in Knox County. The plaque and Historic Landmark designation came in 1965, but had been vandalized and so taken down and in storage for a number of years. Now the plaque is cleaned up and affixed to this 1,000 lb + chunk of TN Pink Marble quarried in Blount County. We were able to help out with the cost of the stone and Brimmer Monument did a marvelous job of cleaning it up, finishing it, restoring the plaque, mounting it, and setting the stone in place.
